First timelapse attempt

TOP del.icio.us digg

This is my first attempt at a timelapse sunset.

I bought a handy dandy little device that plugs into my camera and I can then set to take a single shot at set intervals. After a few hours I end up with a few thousand individual photos which I then stitch together to make a movie. Simple right?

The real art is not the technicalities but finding something that will be truly amazing when viewed in this way. Now I just have to find those things.

I only wish I had been able to do it on a few of my trips. Can you imagine the sun rising over the Himalayas or setting over the pyramids?

Very good time lapse with the animals would have been great .

Where did you get the timelapse thingy Greg. My son is photo mad and with his birthday coming up (3 days before yours) seems a great pressie.

Hi Dawn. Technically it’s called an intervalometer. I got mine from Ebay and if you do a search there for “shutter release” you’ll find hundreds, then it’s just a matter of finding the right one for his particular camera.

Maybe I should do a “how I did it” post?

    Hi Greg,
Just had a look at the sunset and it looks great. Very clever little device. What kind of camera. not just a point and shoot obviously.

Thanks Chris. No, not a point and shot. I used my DSLR and had it set on the best quality I could that would still allow me to get sufficient shots to make the movie. I have a couple of versions including one that still looks good on my big TV.

I’m guessing that a point and shoot would still work as long as it had a plug for a shutter release and you played with the settings so it didn’t auto off. The other vital bit of equipment is a tripod!
