Comparing apples to everything else

Ever found any money in the pocket of some clothes you were about to wash or haven’t worn in a while? It’s like free money right? Money that you don’t feel guilty about spending on something frivolous. Well, it kind of happened to me.

I went into Starbucks for a coffee and found that I had more than enough on my Starbucks card for the biggest latte that they do. It felt like getting a free coffee since I’d forgotten that I had money on the card.

But I felt a little out of place as I sat there. Sure I had my phone I could look at which made me blend in with the Thais a little but to blend in with the other foreigners I really needed to have my laptop out and be busily typing away on something important. My first thought was that I’d have to bring my laptop with me next time but then I realised that I would still be out of place since it’s a cheap one and doesn’t have the big glowing Apple logo on it.

Now I’m conflicted. Does this mean I can never go back to Starbucks again?

No it means you should not go to Starbucks at all. Go buy LOCAL coffee at a LOCAL coffee shop. Then don’t compare anything. Just enjoy your delicious coffee and maybe start a conversation….

But if I didn’t have the coffee and just left the money on the card it would be like I’d just given the money to Starbucks.
